Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with Ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Adluri Lakshman, have inaugurated the 800 MW Unit 1 of the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) near Damaracherla, Nalgonda district.
With this, two units of the 4,000 MW (5x800 MW) plant have been commissioned—Unit 2 was completed in December 2024. Built by Telangana Power Generation Corporation (TGGENCO), YTPS is slated to be India’s largest public-sector thermal power project.
The Ministers also laid the foundation for an integrated township at YTPS, being developed on 55 acres at a cost of Rs 970 crore.
The third unit is slated for commissioning in October 2025, the fourth in December, with the entire project dedicated to the nation in January 2026. Vikramarka blamed the previous government for delays in environmental clearance, leading to a two-year project delay and cost escalation. He assured compensation to land donors and promised employment to families affected by Yadadri and Pulichintala projects.
