Afcons Infrastructure has achieved a new national milestone in tunnelling by completing 777 mtrs. in a single month using tunnel boring machine (TBM) ‘Flamingo’.

The record was set in July 2025 as part of CIDCO’s Hetawane Water Supply Augmentation Scheme, specifically Water Tunnel Package-1, which is vital to ensuring a reliable and enhanced drinking water supply for Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas. The tunnel, with a 3.2-metre diameter, is a critical component of the 8.7-km-long project, of which Afcons has already completed 3.4 km. The latest achievement surpasses the previous national monthly record of 653 mtrs. set at Mumbai’s Amar Mahal II Tunnel project in July 2024.

Afcons had also broken ground earlier in May 2025 by achieving 714 mtrs. in a month, a benchmark it has now exceeded. The new record highlights Afcons’ growing expertise in tunnelling and its contribution to India’s infrastructure sector. The Hetawane augmentation scheme is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the rising drinking water demand of Navi Mumbai’s urban and industrial population.
