The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a comprehensive plan to ensure permanent and safe drinking water supply for Guntur city and its surrounding merged areas.
Union Minister of State Pemmasani Chandrasekhar said providing an integrated and sustainable water system was a key pre-election promise and remains a top priority. He, along with Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi, laid the foundation for new elevated level service reservoirs at AT Agraharam and Udyoga Nagar, along with an urban primary health centre. The government has prepared a Rs 35 crore plan to reconstruct seven old and dilapidated storage tanks, with more works set to begin shortly. To strengthen supply, a high-capacity pumping system at Undavalli is being upgraded at a cost of Rs 3.28 crore.
For long-term needs, a Rs 370 crore AMRUT project will bring Krishna River water directly to Guntur, ensuring water security for decades. All projects are being funded through GMC general funds, alongside ongoing infrastructure works worth nearly Rs 500 crore.
