The Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Department has invested over Rs 2,900 crore this year to strengthen the state's water supply and sanitation infrastructure.
Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian highlighted that this investment has accelerated the completion of major projects, expanded the adoption of technology, and reinforced water quality and sanitation systems. These improvements have directly impacted daily life in rural and semi-urban areas. Currently, over 34 lakh families in Punjab are receiving potable drinking water, with 100 percent coverage. Punjab has also become the fifth state in India to achieve the milestone of providing functional household tap connections to every rural household. Particular attention was given to water quality-affected regions, with 15 major surface water supply projects benefiting 1,706 villages.
"Sustained financial push has reinforced water quality and sanitation systems, improving the daily lives of people," said the Cabinet Minister. The state's achievements reflect a significant step forward in improving rural water access.
