Apollo Tyres is setting up a plant to produce truck
and bus radial tyres at Vadodara in Gujarat. The plant is estimated to cost
Rs.110 crore and would be set up in technical alliance with Continental AG, a
German tyre making company.
Production at the plant is expected to
start from April 2004.
In the meantime, the company has already started
feeding the local markets with radial tyres imported from Continental. This
exercise initiated by Apollo's product development team, would help the company
customise commercial radials for Indian conditions.
The new radials would incorporate high-tech design
elements to give the optimum combination of durability, traction and fuel
efficiency.
