Apollo Tyres plans to commence the
civil construction work on the first phase of its 2,200 crore radial tyre plant
at Oragadam Industrial Park in Chennai by October 2008.
Phase I of the project, to have a
capacity of 200 tpd of tyres, will be set up at a cost of Rs.1,000 crore.
Currently, development of 135 acres of land for the plant has already been
completed and the project work is expected to be completed by 2009.
Apart from the Oragadam greenfield
facility, construction of another plant is currently under way at Gyongyos in
Hungary. This unit in Hungary will be a dedicated passenger car radial tyre
plant with a capacity of 7 million tyres a year in the first phase, which is
expected to be completed in 18 months with a projected investment of 200 million
euros.
