Apple supplier Jabil is planning to scale up the production of AirPods enclosures in India, focusing on its proposed second facility in Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu.
This strategic expansion aligns with Apple’s broader aim to diversify its manufacturing base beyond China. Currently, Jabil manufactures plastic casings for AirPods at its plant in pune, Maharashtra. The company is now considering leveraging the Trichy facility to boost output for Apple, although construction at the site is yet to commence.
The US company’s executives met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin in Chennai last month before visiting the proposed site in Trichy. Industry experts highlight that AirPods component manufacturing is a relatively new segment in India but is anticipated to become increasingly significant, even as Jabil is positioned to secure an early foothold in this space to stay ahead of the curve.
