Apple is reportedly in early discussions with Indian chip manufacturers about assembling and packaging components for the iPhone in the country.
This marks a significant step for Apple, as the tech giant evaluates having chips specifically assembled and packaged in India. One of the key players in these talks is CG Semi, a part of the Murugappa Group, which is setting up a semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The facility, supported by both the Central and state governments, will operate at a capacity of 0.5 million units daily and aims to begin commercial operations by 2026.
A source mentioned, “The companies are in the very initial stages of discussion... it will likely be display chips.” This collaboration could significantly boost India’s semiconductor sector, following other recent developments in the industry.
