Ashok Leyland, an automobile company, has set up a new passenger bus assembly unit at Model Industrial Park, Mallavalli Industrial Estate in Andhra Pradesh, as per latest information available with Projects Today.
The new unit which has been developed at a cost of Rs 170 crore, has a capacity of 4,800 buses per year.
The facility has been developed over 75 acre of land parcel and also has an electric vehicles development centre and a skill development centre.
Apart from making the entire range of buses of Ashok Leyland, the electric vehicle development centre comprises a futuristic conveyor line, pilot assembly line and prototype development.
The foundation stone for the project was laid on 31 March 2018 and soon work on the project began.
Within a year by 31 March 2019, machinery installation work was completed on the project and on 23 April 2019, commercial production began.
The project will create employment opportunities for 5,000 people.
