Assam Petro-Chemicals (APL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) to set up a 150 tonne per day (TPD) e-Methanol plant at Kandla Port in Gujarat.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh. The Deendayal Port Authority will provide necessary infrastructure, including pipeline connectivity and fuel handling facilities, while APL will establish the green methanol production unit. This plant will help position Kandla Port as a key green fuel supply point along major international maritime trade routes, such as the Singapore–Rotterdam corridor.
As Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma noted, "This is a significant step towards clean energy and the green shipping transition." The plant is expected to reduce logistics costs, enhance shipping integration, and attract more deep-sea vessels, boosting trade across the region.
