Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced that the state’s longest flyover—the Avinashi Road Elevated Corridor in Coimbatore, will be named after the legendary inventor and industrialist GD Naidu, widely revered as the 'Edison of India'.
The inauguration is scheduled for today. The 10.10-km-long flyover, constructed at a cost of Rs 1,791.22 crore, stretches from Uppilipalayam to Goldwins and is expected to ease traffic on one of Coimbatore's busiest routes.The newly constructed elevated corridor, measuring 17.25 mtrs. in width, and introduces several innovative safety features. Roller crash barriers have been installed on the ramps to enhance vehicle safety, while rumble strips have been laid where ramp traffic merges with the flyover, helping reduce the risk of accidents.
Officially sanctioned in August 2020, only five percent of the work had been completed earlier, and the CM credited the Dravidian model governance for completing the remaining 95 percent efficiently. Local entrepreneurs, industrialists, and residents welcomed the move, praising GD Naidu’s legacy of innovation, technical brilliance, and service to society.
