BEML has marked a significant milestone in India's mining and manufacturing landscape with the official handover of the country’s largest indigenously developed electric rope shovel to Coal India. The equipment, named BRS21, was formally presented to B Sairam, Chairman and Managing Director of Northern Coalfields.
The BRS21 is a high-capacity electric rope shovel built specifically for overburden removal in open cast mining operations. With an operating weight of 720 tonne and a 21 cubic mtrs. bottom dump bucket, the shovel is positioned among the most capable in the world. It is designed to handle the rigorous demands of large-scale mining, particularly in coal extraction zones managed by Coal India.
BEML highlighted the rapid development cycle of the BRS21, stating that the massive equipment was developed in just 24 months. This feat is being hailed as a testament to Indian engineering capabilities and a reflection of the country’s drive toward technological self-reliance in critical industrial sectors.
