Coal production from India's captive and commercial mines reached 15.57 million tonne (MT) in June 2025, while dispatches stood at 17.31 MT, reflecting the sector's robust performance.
The first quarter of FY 2025–26 registered a 16.39 percent year-on-year increase in production and a 13.03 percent rise in dispatches compared to the same period last year. This growth highlights greater operational efficiency and optimised utilisation of mining resources. A performance chart for the last three Q1 periods indicates steady and sustained improvements in both production and dispatch levels, showcasing the mining sector’s increasing capacity and output.
Key developments in June included mine opening permission granted for Utkal A Mine, with a Peak Rated Capacity of 25 MT, a major boost to domestic output. Vesting orders were issued for three coal blocks, bringing the total number allocated by the Ministry of Coal to over 200.
