Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with Electricité de France (EDF), a France-based company and a nuclear operator, to explore opportunities to maximise local content of the Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant (JNPP) project.
The MoU would allow the two firms to explore the potential for JNPP (6×1650 MWe), which will be established by Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) in India.
Strategically located in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, this project is a light water reactor and has a capacity of 9.6 GW and aims to provide electricity to around 70 million households.
Further, BHEL and EDF will also explore larger collaborations for the European Pressurised Reactors (EPRs) and for the NUWARD Small Modular Reactor (SMR).
