The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has commenced third rail electrification tests on the elevated section of the upcoming Pink Line between Jayadeva and Tavarekere stations. This vital step marks the beginning of a series of mandatory technical assessments before the entire 21.2-km corridor, stretching from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, becomes operational.
A BMRCL official confirmed that the next stages will involve signal system validation, telecommunication trials, and loading tests, all expected to take approx. four months. Following these procedures, safety inspection reports will be submitted to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), who will authorise commercial operations after thorough review. The line will be launched in two phases: a 7.5-km elevated stretch with six stations and a 13.76-km underground section with 12 stations. While civil work is complete on the elevated segment, the underground work is nearly 90 percent finished.
To support operations, BMRCL has contracted BEML to supply 138 coaches, forming 23 six-car trains. Each coach costs Rs 9.99 crore, including Rs 7.74 crore for manufacturing and Rs 1.3 crore for 15 years of maintenance. Timely delivery of these coaches is critical for meeting the mid-2026 launch timeline.
