The Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) board has approved the proposal to initiate pre-project activities for a greenfield refinery-cum-petrochemical complex in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs 6,100 crore. The project, located on the East Coast, is a strategic step aligned with one of the demands made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The pre-project phase involves critical preliminary activities, including feasibility studies, land identification and acquisition, preparation of a detailed feasibility report, environmental impact assessment, basic design engineering package, and front-end engineering design. These preparatory steps aim to lay a solid foundation for the ambitious industrial development initiative.
Additionally, BPCL disclosed its successful participation in NTPC’s tender for solar power generation projects. The company emerged as the lowest bidder for a 150 MW capacity project as part of NTPC’s 1,200-MW ISTS-connected solar PV power initiative. The solar project is expected to be developed over two years with an estimated investment of Rs 756.45 crore.
Once operational, the project is projected to generate around 400 million units of clean energy annually, contributing approx. Rs 100 crore in revenue. With the refinery project and solar energy investment, BPCL is advancing its portfolio diversification, strengthening India’s energy infrastructure, and supporting renewable energy goals.
