Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to Namrup, Assam to lay the foundation for a new urea plant, Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation (BVFCL) and Assam Valley Fertilizer & Chemical Company (AVFCCL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 08 December, 2025.
The MoU formalizes the agreement for granting land-use rights at Namrup, allowing preparatory and pre-project activities for the proposed Ammonia–Urea Complex. The agreement outlines the framework for land access, use, and management, specifying the roles, responsibilities, and safeguards of both companies as they work toward project implementation. The signing ceremony was attended by Mohan Raj Shetty, Chairman & Managing Director of BVFCL, and Siba Prasad Mohanty, Managing Director of AVFCCL, along with other senior officials.
Once operational, the AVFCCL facility is expected to become the largest urea-producing unit in Northeast India, boosting fertiliser availability, supporting local farmers, and contributing to regional industrial growth.
