Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of an ammonia-urea fertiliser project at Namrup in Dibrugarh district Assam on 21 December, 2025, to be built at an investment of Rs 11,000 crore.
Addressing a large gathering, PM Modi said the modern fertiliser unit will create thousands of employment and self-employment opportunities in the region. The plant is expected to produce over 12 lakh tonne of fertiliser annually, ensuring quicker supply to local farmers and reducing logistics costs. Calling the occasion historic for Assam and the Northeast, the Prime Minister said the long-pending aspirations of Namrup and Dibrugarh were being fulfilled with the start of a new phase of industrial growth. He stressed that Assam is progressing across sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, industry, tourism and technology.
Highlighting farmers’ importance in building a developed India, he said the new urea plant would ensure uninterrupted fertiliser supply and strengthen India’s journey towards self-reliance in fertiliser production.
