The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) will soon be implementing one more Cauvery drinking water project in Bangalore, for which it has already started preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

Due to this project, the city will get an additional 500 MLD of water to supply to the 110 villages that have been merged with the city to constitute greater Bangalore.

The government of Karnataka has agreed to release 10 tmc ft of water from the Cauvery river for the city. Also, the board will approach the concerned national and international agencies for financial assistance, in order to execute the project after getting approval from the state government.

The Karnataka government has agreed to release 10 tmc ft of water, out of which the BWSSB is looking forward to drawing only 6.44 tmc for the new project, which is expected to be executed by the end of 2017.

The BWSSB is likely to approach the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the World Bank for loans to execute the project, which is likely to be called 'The Cauvery fifth stage drinking water project'.

The cost of the project may exceed Rs 4,000 crore, as the BWSSB has to lay new pipelines for all the 110 villages.
