Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD is preparing to establish a manufacturing unit near Hyderabad, making Telangana the first Indian state to host a BYD factory. The decision follows extensive discussions with the state government, which has assured full support, including land allocation for the project.
The Telangana government has proposed three potential sites near Hyderabad, and BYD representatives are currently assessing them before making a final decision. Once confirmed, an agreement will be signed between the company and state authorities. The project is expected to be one of the largest private-sector investments in India’s EV sector.
Beyond vehicle manufacturing, BYD plans to set up a 20-GW battery production plant in India to support its expansion. The company aims to scale up its production capacity to 6,00,000 EVs annually over the next five to seven years, requiring significant investment.
This initiative could also drive the development of ancillary industries producing EV components, fostering an automotive manufacturing hub in the region.
