Balu Forge Industries, a precision engineering company, has started operations of its empty shell production line, at its greenfield manufacturing campus in Belgaum, Karnataka.
This line, one of the first 100 percent indigenously built production line in India, with an annual production capacity of 3,60,000 shells, is designed to produce large-caliber ammunition projectiles and enhances the company’s capability to deliver advanced machining solutions for the defence industry. The entire production line is nearly 100 percent automated, powered by FANUC Robotics, making it one of the most advanced systems in India and globally. The line has been designed in-house, with over 18 machinery manufacturers contributing to its development. The entire process is unmanned, with a cycle time of just 55 seconds, showcasing the cutting-edge nature of the facility.
The company has plans to expand the production line further to meet both domestic and global demand. Commenting on the commercialization, Trimaan Chandock, Executive Director at Balu Forge said, "This is only the first phase of our long-term vision to grow our contribution to the Indian defence production. We will continue to expand our production capability with high-precision offerings, going forward.”
