Bengaluru is set to benefit from two high-speed rail corridors linking it to Chennai and Hyderabad, with the maximum speed of these trains reaching 350 kmph.
The Union Budget has announced seven high-speed rail corridors, including links from Bengaluru to Hyderabad and Chennai, aimed at providing faster and greener connectivity between major cities. The new rail corridors will operate at an average speed of 250 kmph, with an operational speed of 320 kmph, promising a fast and efficient alternative to road and air travel. RITES was entrusted with the final location survey for the Hyderabad-Bengaluru high-speed rail corridor by the South Central Railway (SCR) last year. This proposed 626 km corridor aims to cut travel time between the two cities to just two hours. The alignment of the high-speed rail is expected to follow the current rail route connecting Hyderabad and Bengaluru, with further details to be revealed once the detailed project report (DPR) is finalised.
“With Bengaluru set to be connected by two proposed corridors, the new rail projects will transform inter-city travel and will benefit Karnataka,” said V Somanna, Minister of State for Railways. These high-speed rail projects are expected to improve connectivity and provide a significant boost to the region's transport infrastructure.
