The completion of Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway has been delayed by nearly two years due to statutory issues, technical difficulties, and financial constraints, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari informed the Lok Sabha.
The delays are most prominent in Phase 3, especially in Tamil Nadu. The Arakkonam–Kancheepuram stretch has faced significant issues due to contractor-related problems, with construction halted since May 2025. Despite these challenges, the Karnataka portion of the expressway has been completed, and other phases are expected to finish by June 2026. Financial difficulties have also slowed progress on the Sriperumbudur interchange, which has only reached 24 percent completion.
In Andhra Pradesh, delays were primarily caused by eco-sensitive zone clearances and shifting power lines. While setbacks persist, the Ministry has set revised deadlines for most sections, including the ongoing work on the remaining 192 km in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
