KSR Bengaluru City station (SBC), currently operating at near-saturation levels with 151 trains daily, is set for a significant capacity expansion as part of Indian Railways’ nationwide effort to double the originating capacity of major cities by 2030.
SBC, the primary terminal for Bengaluru, will see improvements including the commissioning of automatic signaling and two additional platform lines in the Yeshvantpur grid. Additionally, Yesvantpur Junction (YPR), handling 106 trains daily, is being developed as a major secondary terminal with four more platform lines and additional pit and stabling facilities. Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVB) at Baiyappanahalli will be enhanced to decongest the city core and support more services. "SMVB is poised to emerge as a major terminal," officials said. Bengaluru Cantonment (BNC) will continue serving as a key secondary terminal for eastern and northeastern routes.
Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVB) in Baiyappanahalli, Bengaluru, equipped with modern facilities, currently manages approx. 31 trains daily, even though it has significant unused capacity.
