The Beur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Patna, Bihar, has been completed with an investment of Rs 66.31 crore, and is now operational.
The plant, with the capacity to treat 43 million litres of sewage per day, is a major initiative under the national Clean Ganga Mission (Namami Gange). The facility is designed to intercept and treat wastewater from Beur and nearby areas, which previously flowed untreated into the Ganga River, worsening water quality. With this new STP, sewage will undergo scientific treatment before being released, significantly reducing pollution levels and improving water quality in the Ganga.
The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo) led the project, ensuring that it uses modern technology for efficient treatment and low energy consumption. Environmental experts have praised the development, noting that it will benefit both the river's ecosystem and public health by lowering the risk of water-borne diseases and supporting local biodiversity.
