Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has accorded approval to Chenab Valley Power Projects (CVPP) Kwar Hydroelectric project.
The Kwar Hydroelectric project will be carried out on river Chenab in Kishtwar, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Work on the Kwar HE Project will be implemented by building a 109 mtr high concrete gravity dam and an underground power house of 540 MW. The project will produce around 1,975 MU of energy annually. The project received forest clearance from the government of J&K, and environment clearance is soon expected.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 4,949 crore, which will be met by debt-equity method. The project is scheduled to be completed in 54 months from the date of commencing work.
The Pakal Dul HE project of 1,000 MW and Kiru HE project of 624 MW have obtained all statutory clearances such as accord of appraisal by CEA, forest clearance by the government of J&K and environment clearance by MOEF&CC, and the tendering is in process.
Construction work on both the projects will commence in 2017.
