Chennai Petroleum Corporation (CPCL) proposes to set up a new nine million
tonne refinery by scrapping it Unit I of three million tpa capacity at Manali
refinery complex. The project is likely to entail an investment of Rs 10,000
crore.
At present, the Manali complex has a capacity to process 10.5 million tonne
of crude. The company has planned to take up another project to raise the
capacity (of Unit-II) by 0.6 million tonne, at a cost of Rs 333 crore. Therefore
by 2012, the Manali complex is to be capable of handling 11.1 million tonne of
crude.
CPCL's Cauvery Basin Refinery has a capacity of one million tonne which could
be stretched to 1.2 million tonne. Therefore the total capacity with CPCL, by
2012 will be 13.3 million tonne which is to go further up by six million tonne
by 2016.
