The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Delhi Metro Phase V (A) expansion project worth Rs 12,015 crore.
The project will add 13 new stations - 10 underground, and three elevated, across three key corridors, spanning a total of 16 km, further boosting the capital’s mass rapid transit system. This expansion is expected to push the total length of the Delhi Metro network beyond 400 km within three years. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighted the transformative impact of Delhi Metro on the city’s daily commuters, stating, "With this expansion, a new chapter will be added to the Delhi Metro."
The new corridors will enhance last-mile connectivity, ease congestion, and improve access between residential areas, commercial hubs, and transit interchanges. The project is set to decongest critical traffic corridors and will significantly impact urban mobility in the National Capital Region (NCR).
