The Union government is planning to develop an outer ring rail (ORR) on the periphery of the upcoming 350 km-long regional ring road (RRR) around Hyderabad in Telangana. The railway ministry has approved Rs 13.95 crore for final location survey (FLS) and the estimated cost is around Rs 26,000 crore for the project.
The project details have been shared with the state government and over 99 percent of the preparatory works related to the route map has been completed. Moreover, around 50 percent of the cost for the land acquisition will be carried out by the union government and the state government has sanctioned Rs 500 crore.
The 563.5-km railway line including a 536-km ORR will run parallelly to the RRR with a bypass-cum-rail over the rail at Akkanapet, Yadadri, Chityal, and others. In addition, by locating hubs connecting Vijayawada, Medak, Mumbai and others will ease travelling.
Along with residents of Hyderabad and commuters, the project will benefit the business and transport sector as well and reduce congestion at terminals such as Secunderabad, Nampally, Kacheguda, and Lingampally.
