The Central government has approved seven new projects worth Rs 5,532 crore under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), aiming to boost the country's electronics manufacturing capabilities.
The approval, announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, are set to generate Rs 44,406 crore in output and create 5,195 jobs across sectors like smartphones, automobiles, telecom, and medical devices. The ECMS, launched with an outlay of Rs 22,919 crore, seeks to attract both domestic and global investors, strengthen India's electronics value chain, and increase its global market presence. By September 2023, commitments under the scheme had reached Rs 1.15 lakh crore, far surpassing initial targets.
The approved projects focus on vital components, including camera modules and multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs), and will be distributed across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh to foster regional manufacturing clusters. India’s electronics sector has grown significantly, with mobile manufacturing being a key contributor.
