Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) is set to open the Vadapalani–Panagal Park section of Phase II’s Corridor 4 by March 2027, as planned.
The 3.5 km stretch, which is part of the larger 26.1 km Corridor 4 running from Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass, is progressing well with tunnelling already completed between Vadapalani and Panagal Park. Track-laying work is expected to begin soon. At Panagal Park station, structural work has reached the concourse and platform levels, while excavation continues at lower levels. A separate segment of Corridor 4, between Poonamallee and Vadapalani, is likely to open first, potentially by February.
Once operational, the Vadapalani–Panagal Park stretch will provide direct metro access to T Nagar, enabling passengers to travel through the existing Phase I network and interchange at Vadapalani, significantly reducing travel time. Panagal Park station will also serve a key operational role with crossover tracks for depot access and emergencies.
