The Coimbatore Metro Rail project is moving ahead, with Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) expected to complete the final detailed land plan schedule (LPS), including asset valuation for both proposed corridors, within two months.
The project will cover 40 km, with Corridor-1 running from Ukkadam Bus Stand to Coimbatore Airport near Neelambur, and Corridor-2 extending from Coimbatore Junction to Valiyampalayam Privu. Estimated project cost stands at Rs 10,740 crore. Coimbatore MP Ganapathy P Rajkumar and Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran confirmed that surveys and mapping are complete, while an urgent LPS for the 1.4 km bottleneck stretch between Tex Tools Bridge and Suriya Hospital has already been submitted for validation.
For this stretch, 2.28 acres of private and 0.58 acres of government land are required. Officials added that administrative sanction documents for the primary LPS have been submitted to CMRL.
