Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that four companies—Micron, CG Power, Kaynes Technology, and Tata Electronics, will begin commercial semiconductor manufacturing in 2026.
This is a significant step in India's push for self-reliance in semiconductor production. Micron, CG Power, and Kaynes Technology, which began pilot production last year, will transition to commercial operations, while Tata’s Assam plant will start pilot production by mid-2026. The semiconductor manufacturing sector is seeing increasing interest from Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, signaling global confidence in India’s semiconductor ecosystem. Vaishnaw emphasised that semiconductors are critical to sectors like healthcare, transportation, and defence, making them essential for economic security.
The Indian government has approved 10 semiconductor manufacturing projects, with a total investment exceeding Rs 1.60 lakh crore across multiple states. Vaishnaw also discussed the revised Design Linked Incentive (DLI 2.0) scheme, focusing on long-term growth and market validation.
