Maytas Metro Rail, a the
concessionaire company to implement the Hyderabad Metro project and Andhra
Pradesh government on 19 September 2008, signed a concession agreement for the
Hyderabad Metro rail project.
A Maytas-led consortium will develop
the metro system at an estimated cost of Rs.12,132 crore on BOT basis in PPP
mode. The Maytas-led consortium will hold 52 percent (Maytas will hold 26
percent, Navabharat 16 percent, Ital Thai (Thailand) 5 percent and IL&FS 5
percent) in the project whereas the state government will hold 16 percent
equity.
Financial closure for the project is
expected within six months and work is likely to commence by March 2009.
The metro rail with a total length of
71.16 km, will have 66 railway stations. It is expected to carry about 1.7
million passengers per day by 2012 and 2.8 million passengers by 2021.
