Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP Group), a Moroccan state-owned phosphate rock miner, phosphoric acid manufacturer, and phosphate fertiliser producer, launched construction work of a wastewater treatment plant in Kasbat Tadla, a town in Béni-Mellal Province, located in Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, north-central Morocco.
Funded by OCP, the Ministry of Interior and the municipality of Tadla to the tune of USD 18 milion, USD 3.2 million and USD 758.329 respectively, the facility aims to cope with water stress in the region and will be completed and put into operation in 12 months.
The OCP Group will ensure operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant in Kasbat Tadla.
The water will then be supplied through the existing industrial water pipes to OCP’s facilities in the Khouribga mining area, which has only one wastewater treatment plant that supplies the Merah Lahrach washing plant since 2012.
At the OCP’s facilities in the Khouribga mining area, the water will be used to clean the phosphates after extraction.
The wastewater treatment plant project in Kasbat Tadla, which is a part of the Act4community Khouribga action launched by OCP, will contribute to the company’s objective to participate in the cleaning of Oum Er Rbia River, and preserve conventional water resources as well as boost socio-economic, cultural, and environmental development in the project region.
