Veolia, a French water and wastewater management company, is set to supply nearly 60 percent of Mumbai’s drinking water by 2030 through two major water treatment plants at Bhandup and Panjrapur.
These plants will collectively provide close to 3,000 million liters per day, significantly enhancing the city’s water infrastructure. Guillaume Dourdin, CEO and Country Director of Veolia India, stated that the Bhandup plant is expected to be operational by 2029, followed by the Panjrapur facility in 2030.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has awarded a Rs 4,124 crore contract to Welspun Enterprises to build the 2,000 MLD Bhandup water treatment plant, with Veolia providing the technology. This facility will be one of the largest globally in terms of capacity. Additionally, BMC contracted Welspun for a 910 MLD water treatment plant at Panjrapur in Thane district.
