Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has urged District Collectors to begin advance planning for water conservation efforts ahead of the upcoming monsoon, ensuring maximum rainwater harvesting and storage.
This initiative is aimed at maintaining Gujarat's leadership in water conservation. The appeal was made during a video conference organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the state government to review the progress of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari 2.0 campaign. Chief Minister Patel emphasized the importance of effective planning and long-term vision for rainwater harvesting. He called for healthy competition among districts to boost water conservation activities, especially in areas with fewer initiatives. Additionally, the state government has allocated Rs 50 lakh to each MLA for water conservation projects.
CM Patel also urged the timely use of a Rs 553 crore central grant for water conservation by March 2026. Union Minister C R Patil praised Gujarat's water conservation model, highlighting the state's role in the national movement.
