DCM Shriram has commissioned its first eco-friendly epichlorohydrin (ECH) plant at its chemical complex in Jhagadia, Bharuch district, Gujarat.
The plant, with an initial capacity of 35,000 tonne per annum (TPA), began operations on 14 October, 2025. The company plans to bring an additional 17,000 TPA capacity online soon. This project represents a strategic move to integrate its chlor-alkali and advanced materials operations more efficiently. Uniquely, the plant uses glycerine—a by-product of biodiesel, as its feedstock, diverging from the traditional propylene-based, fossil-fuel method.
This environmentally conscious choice, supported by advanced European technology, considerably lowers the plant's carbon footprint. ECH is a vital chemical used in producing epoxy resins for coatings, adhesives, electronics, and composites. The new facility supports India’s push for green, self-reliant manufacturing and import substitution in the chemical sector, further cementing DCM Shriram’s leadership in sustainable chemical innovation.
