The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed construction work of
its 1.775 km underground tunnel built by a single tunnel boring machine (TBM)
with a TBM breaking through at Khan Market on 22 April 2009.
This tunnel is a part of the Central Secretariat-Khan Market stretch of the
under construction Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor. DMRC has completed the
construction of the tunnel in 152 days and 37.5 mtrs of tunneling was completed
in a day with the installation of 25 rings. The tunneling work was started in
November 2008.
All the tunneling activities on the corridor are scheduled to be completed by
August 2009. ITD-ITDCEM consortium is the contractor for the tunneling
activities on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor.
As this long underground stretch of Delhi Metro is without a station, a
ventilation shaft is being constructed at Motilal Nehru Marg to provide
ventilation and fire escape facilities.
