DP World and Reliance Industries have introduced an innovative rail-based logistics solution for the petrochemicals industry, replacing road transport to cut carbon emissions.
The new service connects Reliance's Jamnagar plant in Gujarat to DP World's inland container depot (ICD) in Ahmedabad and onward to Mundra port. Previously, the Mundra-Jamnagar-Mundra round trip required 700 km of road transport per container. "With the new solution, the Ahmedabad-Jamnagar-Mundra route, also approximately 700 km, has been converted to rail," DP World stated. This shift addresses environmental and operational challenges while maintaining coverage.
The integrated rail service can transport up to 1,260 tonne of cargo and consolidate 45 containers in a single movement, streamlining logistics and reducing the reliance on multiple trailers and drivers. The transition eliminates over 700 km of road transport per container, significantly lowering carbon emissions and supporting Reliance’s sustainability goals.
