The Telangana government has completed the detailed project report (DPR) for Phase-I of the Musi River Rejuvenation project, and plans to submit it to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) by the end of December to release funds.
ADB has already approved a Rs 4,100 crore loan for the comprehensive revival of the river. The first phase covers a nine-km stretch from Himayatsagar to Bapu Ghat via Kismatpur and involves minimal land acquisition, affecting about 60 properties. The DPR proposes service roads, green spaces, recreational zones, amusement parks, and check dams to enhance water retention and facilitate water sports. “Once cleared by the Cabinet, the report will be forwarded to the ADB,” said officials, with state Cabinet approval expected by month-end.
A consortium including Meinhardt, Cushman & Wakefield, RIOS, Zaha Hadid Architects, and SOM prepared the report. In parallel, a 55-km Trunk Interceptor Sewer Main project costing Rs 3,100 crore will treat sewage before release, supporting river restoration and public infrastructure improvements.
