The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 14 October, 2025 to jointly develop 300 MW of solar-based renewable energy projects across DRDO establishments in India.
The agreement was formalized at DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi, and was attended by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman, along with Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. This collaboration aligns with India's broader renewable energy goals and DRDO’s vision of building self-reliant, Net-Zero energy campuses at strategic locations by 2027.
The initiative marks a significant step toward sustainability within the defence sector, enhancing India’s energy security and reducing dependency on conventional energy sources. The partnership also underscores inter-ministerial cooperation between defence and renewable energy departments, aiming for both technological advancement and environmental responsibility.
