The high-speed Airport Express of the Delhi Metro has started operations on
23 February 2011.
The 23-km line has been developed jointly by Delhi Airport Metro Express, a
Reliance Infrastructure subsidiary, and DMRC. The project has entailed a cost of
Rs 5,700 crore.
The trains on the line are to run at a speed of 105 kmph to begin with, since
a formal approval by the Research Design and Standards Organisation for 120-kmph
speeds is still awaited.
The metro line was originally scheduled to commence operations before the
Commonwealth Games in October 2010. However, the company failed to secure the
mandatory safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety.
