The Delhi government has released its share of funds for the remaining three corridors of Phase IV of the Delhi Metro Rail Transit System (MRTS), aiming to accelerate the expansion of the city's Metro network.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted that these projects would significantly improve connectivity across the capital, enhance public transport, and contribute to reducing pollution by offering a safer and more convenient alternative to private vehicles. The three corridors, totalling 47.225 km, are estimated to cost around Rs 14,630.80 crore, with the Delhi government's contribution of Rs 3,386.18 crore.
The first corridor will connect Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block, spanning 8.385 km with eight elevated stations. The second corridor will run from Inderlok to Indraprastha, covering 12.377 km with a mix of elevated and underground stations. The third, and longest, will link Rithala to Kundli, extending 26.463 km to Haryana. These new corridors are expected to be completed within four years, reducing traffic congestion and promoting sustainable public transport.
