The Delhi metro is likely to be get extended till Ghaziabad’s Loni as the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has agreed to share a third of the cost of constructing a station at Johari Enclave.
The GDA has agreed to share a third of the total Rs 231 crore needed for the construction of the station at Johari Enclave. Apart from sharing the cost, the GDA will also be giving a part of the land in Ghaziabad for the development of the station. It has given in-principle approval for both.
The DMRC plans to build a station at Johari Enclave, which is proposed to be built on a three km extension of the Yamuna Vihar line to Shiv Vihar in the Phase III of expansion of the Metro network. Some part of land required for the station is in Uttar Pradesh. The extension is part of the new 56 km Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar corridor, which will connect areas in north, south and east Delhi. On completion, the Johari Enclave station will cater to a large number of commuters from Loni.
Meanwhile, the GDA has also worked out a funding pattern for the Rs 991-crore Dilshad Garden-New Bus Stand Metro extension in Ghaziabad city. In a recent move, officials in Lucknow approved the Phase II of Metro extension in Ghaziabad. Around 9.41km will be added to the Metro line as part of Phase II of extension in Ghaziabad, resulting in the construction of seven stations between Dilshad Garden and New Bus Stand. The route is expected to cater to nearly 87,000 commuters.
