Eastern Coalfields (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, inaugurated the Rs 110 crore Dalmia Railway Siding in Salanpur, West Bengal, to boost coal evacuation.
The new facility is expected to increase coal dispatch capacity and improve logistics efficiency in the region. "The project will ease existing logistics constraints and enable faster, more efficient coal movement," said ECL officials. Covering 70.21 acres, the siding features two 650-mtrs. coal-loading platforms, a dedicated weighbridge, and a total track length of 4.65 km. The siding is designed to evacuate six million tonne of coal per year and will primarily use pay loaders for loading, offering operational flexibility.
This project, executed by RITE, connects to the Eastern Railway network under the Asansol Division. It aims to reduce road transport reliance, cut logistics costs, and promote environmentally sustainable coal movement. The development marks a significant step towards improving rail logistics in coal-rich regions of West Bengal.
