Energy Efficiency Services (EESL) and Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company (APEPDCL) have renewed their partnership to enhance energy efficiency, clean energy, and sustainable mobility in the state.
In a recent review meeting, both entities assessed ongoing initiatives under the UJALA scheme and discussed new joint projects. Andhra Pradesh has achieved annual savings of 2,863 million kWh—six percent of India’s total energy savings via EESL—amounting to Rs 1,145 crore and reducing peak demand by 573 MW. The state has installed over 30 lakh LED streetlights, with the “Vizag Model,” developed after Cyclone Hudhud, now being replicated across major Indian cities and gaining international recognition.
Future plans include deploying electric vehicles under the National E-Mobility Programme, expanding EV charging infrastructure, and installing solar systems on government properties. The partnership will also implement the Smart Meter National Programme and promote energy-efficient appliances.
