The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has initiated a feasibility study for an overhead cable car system connecting Qutb Shahi Tombs and Golconda Fort, two iconic heritage sites in Hyderabad.
This long-pending tourism enhancement plan was initially approved by the Tourism Department in 2021. To advance the proposal, HMDA has floated a request for proposals (RFP) and invited consultants to evaluate the project's viability. Despite being in close proximity, the two heritage sites currently lack effective last-mile connectivity, which hampers seamless tourist movement and integrated heritage tourism. Congested approach roads and challenging terrain make conventional transport solutions impractical, prompting consideration of an eco-friendly cable car system.
As per HMDA's RFP, the cable car aims to reduce ground-level disturbance, cut travel time, and boost tourism. The feasibility study will assess the technical, financial, environmental, and operational aspects of the project. If found viable, it will guide detailed project planning and implementation. Officials highlight that the project aligns with sustainable urban mobility goals and will enhance both domestic and international visitor experiences at Hyderabad’s heritage landmarks.
