Maharashtra is set to get its first dedicated heliport at the Hadapsar Gliding Centre in Pune, a major step towards enhancing regional air connectivity and aviation infrastructure.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol announced that the 230-acre site, currently managed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), will be transferred to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the project. The site, formally leased to AAI for 99 years at a symbolic annual rent of Re one, has served as an aviation training ground for decades.
The Minister highlighted that the heliport, once operational, will support emergency services, medical evacuations, tourism, charter flights, and business travel. Its strategic location in Hadapsar is expected to reduce travel time and spur economic growth in Pune.
Additionally, plans are underway to establish a world-class aviation gallery at the site. The interactive gallery will feature aircraft models, simulators, and historical exhibits, blending aviation education, tourism, and infrastructure in one landmark project. It would also give boost to local development and presents a unique opportunity for learning and engagement with India’s aviation heritage.
