Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw on 30 July, 2025 announced the approval of the final location survey (FLS) for a new railway line between Jammu and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra.
The project aims to improve travel convenience and efficiency for the large number of pilgrims visiting the shrine each year. This marks the first major rail expansion toward the Kashmir Valley in 50 years, aligning with the Centre's infrastructure and tourism development goals.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the region has witnessed a renewed emphasis on infrastructure growth, particularly in sectors like transportation and tourism. Located at the foothills of the Trikuta mountains, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station serves as a crucial entry point for pilgrims journeying to the revered shrine.
